Extras & Ideas

We want your wedding here to be sensational, and there's lots of things we can add to make it extra special.

We have a few local hotels and guest houses within 4 miles. But we can also offer you and your guests an extra stay over experience. Why not camp out in one of our fields. We can supply a tent, but recommend you bring your own. We charge £25.00 for a pitch including a picnic basket breakfast for 2 people. Extra people sharing a tent are just charged for breakfast at £5.00 per person. A typical breakfast includes :
croissants and rolls with butter and jams
fresh juices
tea / coffee
fromage frais
or
bacon & tomato roll
fresh juices
tea / coffee
Flowers:
Our great friend Carole, is a keen gardener and has started her very own English flower garden just down the road. We're hoping to use lots of her creations this year and together with a local nursery, most of our plants and flowers will be local, seasonal and very, very green!
Cake:
Jo in the deli makes superb cakes and offers a bespoke service. And her choice of cakes - sponge, chocolate and fruit are absolutely delicious. Also 'cheese cakes' are something really different. We've done three recently - four tier cakes made entirely of English cheeses. Try a red leicester at the bottom, followed by a mature cheddar, then a blue stilton and cornish yarg on top. Then we can decorate with cheddar or brie hearts, crackers, chutneys and fruit!
Favors:
If you'd like to keep a theme going, we can recommend some brilliant ideas for table gifts. How about locally grown seasonal plants (in colours to suit your scheme) in little keepsake pots or little jars of homemade jams and chutneys with personalised labels.
Creche Service/Kids' Activities:
To us a wedding is all about family - and that usually means a number of children. we can help embrace this with lots of great activities for the little ones. If the children are happy - then we are too! We can go with basic games - a sand pit with tractors and diggers, a bouncy castle, field games like welly wanging, or best dressed wellies too. Rounders or cricket. Nature trails and hay rides. And we can offer a creche tent with baby sitter and staff to help occupy the younger ones with arts and crafts and a reading corner. You can even bring your own camp beds or sleeping bags.
Hay Ride:
A wedding here wouldn't be complete without one of our legendary hay rides! We can bring you down the lane and/or around the farm. We simply deck out the trailer with lots of hay bales and some deluxe cashmere blankets (ohh, and a few lovely umbrellas-just in case)... Ride alone or get your guests to join in the fun. It's a great way to get your photos done in some of the many great locations around the farm.
Wedding Ceremony:
We've tried lots of avenues to get a licence for marriages here...but seem to be struggling. We're still keen to explore this but, in the meantime, there are lots of great alternatives...
CHAPEL: we have a lovely chapel at the end of our lane and so it makes for a perfect package with a hay ride in between.
CIVIL SERVICES: There are registry offices in the nearby towns of Dewsbury and Huddersfield. But for something more unusual and closer...try The Black Horse at Clifton which is a historic coaching inn and they will do the service only - or the enchanting Oakwell Country Hall & Estate at Gomersall with a lovely barn where they'll conduct the service (both are about a 10 minute drive away).
HUMANIST SERVICE: While legally binding in Scotland, a humanist marriage is not yet recognised in England. However, this service is completely personal and non religious, with any elements, words, readings and songs/music...of your choice. The great thing about this service - it can be done anywhere, a field or barn. The choice is yours. You can even make a quick visit to your registry office anytime either before or after (*doesn't have to be the same day), to get the 'legal' paperwork.
Entertainment:
We can arrange this for you and make some great recommendations, or you might have some ideas and contacts of your own. we do know a great DJ, a superb jazz band (Jamie Cullen style), a wonderful string quartet and a ceilidh band.
Our Friends:
Here are some of the friends we've made so far who also reflect our green policies. We can wholeheartedly recommend all of them. Take a look at their websites or give them a call:-
